A Letter From Our Founder
Dear Austin Family Counseling Clients, Colleagues, and Community,
For over 6 weeks, we have been adapting to a new normal, and with that new normal comes what I can only describe as a “roller coaster” of emotions throughout each day. We may find joy in a quiet walk outside or a wave from a neighbor, and later dip into great sadness about our friend who is sick or our postponed wedding plans. We may feel elation after a run or laugh hysterically over an inside joke with our family, and later feel a tight tension in our chest when we think about our neighbors who are out of work and trying to make sense of their new unemployment status. Sometimes we may want to curl up in bed and never leave.
And while there are a lot of unpredictable things that come with the pandemic, one thing that IS predictable and certain is that mental health issues will be a present part of this experience for all of us. At Austin Family Counseling, we want you to know that we are here for you and your loved ones.
We understand the pain and suffering that many of you are experiencing, and while it may seem scary or intimidating to reach out and ask for help, we have licensed therapists answering our phones Monday-Friday, ready to answer any questions you may have. We can offer you same-day virtual appointments from the comfort of your home with no hassle set up. Even if you don’t think a therapy session is right for you, give us a call and we can help you make sense of what your needs are.
Please, if you or someone you love is struggling during this time, reach out to us at 512-298-3381 (call or text) or [email protected]. Asking for help can be incredibly difficult, but we assure you that the risk is worth it.
Sending love and gratitude,
Lora Ferguson, LPC-S

Social-Emotional Learning at Home Through Video Coaching Sessions
Kids are definitely feeling the stress that their parents are feeling about Coronavirus concerns, but they may feel less equipped to deal with their emotions. Scheduling times for tele-therapy with your child’s therapist can be a wonderful way to help them deal with the emotions they may be feeling right now.
We are excited to offer social emotional learning packages to help families feel more in control of their wellness. During these 30 minute sessions with clinicians, children and parents will learn about a variety of topics including: how to encourage goal directed behavior, how to process your feelings in a healthy way, improving relationship skills, how to create space for self-care and how to use self-management to improve your time at home during the Coronavirus. These skills can make a world of difference in how children and parents deal with stress, especially stress caused by a global pandemic.
To register for Social Emotional Learning at Home you can contact Austin Family Counseling at (512) 298-3381 or by email at [email protected].
