Mark Steele, MA, LPC-Associate, NCC, supervised by Allison Eckelkamp, MA, LPC-S, RPT-S

“Live a great story.” It’s empowering to think of ourselves as authors of our life stories and imagining endless possibilities, but sometimes we encounter barriers that are overwhelming and keep us from becoming the person we want to be. Perhaps you’ve experienced trauma that haunts you daily. Maybe you frequently have no motivation to get up in the morning, or you struggle with severe anxiety that keeps you from living the life you want. The decision to seek therapy can be daunting; it is my hope that you get the support you need to provide positive direction in your life.

I believe we all possess an innate tendency toward positive growth and change and I feel privileged to learn about my clients’ experiences. My aim is to provide a safe, welcoming space for my clients to share their thoughts and feelings.

I earned my Bachelors of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Political Science and English Literature. After fifteen years in the IT industry, I realized the corporate environment was not for me and discovered my calling to be a therapist – realizing I had a choice, I made a transition and received my Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling from Texas State University. As a Practicum counselor, I worked with students at Southwestern University.

I am motivated in helping teens and adults of all ages and backgrounds using a counseling approach that best fits my client’s needs at the moment. In addition to being client-centered, I use cognitive behavioral strategies, narrative therapy and mindfulness interventions. I maintain a holistic approach with my clients, integrating the mind, body, beliefs, family and cultural factors that contribute to their uniqueness as a person.

I am passionate about working with individuals that have experienced physical challenges due to an accident or health condition, as this can be a significant life adjustment, leading to grief, isolation, stress, anxiety and depression. I also know ASL, so I am happy to meet with you if you prefer this mode of communication.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking trails with my wife and my two mini Australian shepherds. I love reading, journaling, camping, bike riding, coffee with friends, weight training and practicing yoga.
