Hope Isn't Out of Reach

Find Hope and Healing

Are you or someone you love experiencing feelings of hopelessness or despair? You might find it hard to focus at work, struggle with sleep, notice changes in your appetite, or feel disconnected from activities you once enjoyed. These are all common signs of depression.

When these symptoms persist for more than two weeks and start to interfere with your daily life, they may indicate a major depressive episode. Depression is more common than many people realize — it affects an estimated 1 in 12 U.S. adults each year, and rates are highest among young adults. While depression can feel isolating and overwhelming, it’s important to know that help is available and healing is possible.

Recognizing the Signs of Depression

  • Persistent sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness
  • Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Fatigue or low energy most days
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, know that you’re not alone, and help is available.

Talk With Us About What You're Experiencing

Types of Depression We Treat

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

Persistent sadness, loss of interest, and low energy that lasts most of the day, nearly every day, for two weeks or more.

  • Bipolar Depression

Depressive episodes that alternate with periods of elevated mood or energy — requiring a different treatment approach than depression alone.

  • Postpartum Depression (PPD)

Overwhelming sadness, anxiety, or exhaustion after childbirth that goes beyond the normal “baby blues.” Our therapists support new parents through this transition.

  • Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Depression that’s tied to the changing seasons, often bringing low energy, oversleeping, and withdrawal during darker months.

  • Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)

A lower-grade but longer-lasting form of depression — often described as “always in the background” — that can go unrecognized for years.

  • Teen & Young Adult Depression

Depression that shows up as irritability, isolation, slipping grades, or loss of motivation. Our child and teen counselors specialize in age-appropriate support for Austin-area families.

How Therapy Can Support You

We take a holistic, long-term approach to therapy — addressing both the symptoms of depression and any co-occurring challenges. Our focus isn’t on quick fixes, but on fostering meaningful, lasting change. Through therapy, we’ll help you:

  • Build a deep understanding of your unique experiences and what’s driving your depression
  • Identify and address the triggers behind depressive episodes
  • Process life events or challenges that may be contributing to how you feel
  • Develop sustainable coping strategies and rediscover a sense of hope

Depression often overlaps with…
Anxiety: persistent worry can accompany depression, creating a cycle that feels hard to break. Stress: ongoing life stress can deepen depressive symptoms and make daily tasks harder. Trauma: past experiences can contribute to depression, hopelessness, or emotional numbness. Physical health: depression can worsen fatigue, sleep issues, or chronic pain.

About Depression Counseling

Have questions about getting started, fees, or finding the right therapist in Austin? We're here to help.

What happens in the first session?

Your first session is focused on understanding your unique experience — what you’re feeling, when it started, and what’s been affecting you. We’ll talk through your history and goals together, and your therapist will begin building a treatment plan tailored to you. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out; we’ll take it one step at a time.

Do you offer depression counseling near Westlake or Northwest Hills?

Yes! We have two Austin office locations, one in Westlake and one in Northwest Hills, so you can choose whichever is more convenient. We also offer virtual depression counseling for clients anywhere in Texas.

Can depression therapy be done virtually?

Yes. We offer virtual depression counseling for clients across Texas, so you can get support from home if that’s more convenient or comfortable for you.

Do you take insurance?

We don’t accept insurance directly, but we provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We’re happy to walk you through how that process works before your first session.
