Positive Discipline for Parents and Caregivers

Workshops

Positive Discipline: Collaborative Parenting

Positive Discipline is for parents who are looking for long-term parenting skills that will encourage their children to think for themselves, become more responsible and have greater respect for themselves and for others. Tools are based in Adlerian theory, which promotes kindness and firmness to help parents get to the core of their child’s misbehavior, bringing more joy into the home and offering a sense of accomplishment.

This experiential workshop is ideal for parents who want to:

  • Learn how to teach their children and not boss them
  • Incorporate respect, firmness and love into discipline
  • Understand the reasons and beliefs behind behaviors
  • Successfully implement effective family meetings
  • Create a home environment that enhances cooperations, collaboration, communication, a sense of connections, accountability and mutual respect

Child-Parent Relationship Therapy

When children have problems, sometimes they don’t have the words they need to talk about them, so they communicate their problems through their behavior. Play gives children a healthy way to express their thoughts and feelings.

In Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), parents learn many of the same skills that play therapist use with their clients, including:

  • How to help children open up to you
  • How to recognize and respond to children’s emotional needs
  • How to set limits and reduce power struggles
  • How to increase self-esteem
  • How to foster creativity, self-responsibility and self-control

Research studies have shown that motivated parents who have completed CPRT can be just as effective as play therapists at:

  • Reducing problem behaviors
  • Developing responsibility and self-control in children
  • Increasing children’s self-esteem
  • Enhancing the parent-child relationship

In a CPRT group, the atmosphere is friendly and the training is interactive, making it an enjoyable experience. You also get the chance to connect and receive support from other parents who are going through similar issues.

Date: Tuesdays, September 19, 2017 – November 14, 2017 (No class on October 31, 2017)

Time: 6:00PM – 7:30PM
