Julia Terstriep, LMFT-A Supervised by Kirby Sandlin Schroeder LPC-S, LMFT-S

Welcome all! I’m Julia, and I am so grateful you’re here. Combing through therapist biographies and making a decision in which you feel truly aligned can be heavy tasks, and I believe your progress that has led you here is worth celebrating. I will share a few words about me and the services I strive to provide, so you can decide if we may be a possible fit.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from University of Tennessee with a major in hotel and tourism management and a focus on ecotourism (although, I often wished that my real major was being a member of the UT dance team). In my past professional life, I managed hotels, made my way into corporate sales, and became a certified yoga instructor to teach in my free time. Fast forward through years of life, my own therapy, and planning, and I was finally ready to dive into my Master of Arts in counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University for marriage and family therapy.

As a therapist, I prioritize creating a safe, judgement free, intimate, and creative environment to cultivate an empowering healing journey. I use therapeutic orientations including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Narrative Family Therapy, and I enjoy working from Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, and strength and value based perspectives. It is the deepest honor of my life to sit with other humans as they search, untangle, and strengthen from within, and I find endless beauty in the vulnerability I get to witness in every session.

I work with individuals, couples, families, and unique subsystems of the family such as mother/daughter relationship, siblings, and co-parents. I also specialize in working with competitive dancers and performers, premarital couples, emerging adults in that, at times, bittersweet spot in their development, and woman looking to nourish their self-identity. I am also especially interested in exploring grief, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, family resilience, and relationships. Overall, every single part of you is welcome in therapy with me, and my goal is to help foster a more authentic existence and peace in connection to yourself and others in your life.
