Geetha Pokala LPC-Associate Supervised by Kirby Schroeder LPC-S, LMFT-S
Hi, my name is Geetha (she/her/hers)! How ever you ended up here, I congratulate you on making one of the first steps to starting therapy! You did it! I believe that the process of therapy develops differently for everyone, which is why it is my goal to create an open space for you to be yourself. Therapy is a time for you and I to explore issues that are affecting your day to day in a way that feels most comfortable to you, whether that is through playing, talking, drawing, etc. I wish to offer you this space with no judgment and lots of support and guidance. Ultimately, I believe that most clients, like yourself, are self-actualizing and, by providing the right environment, I can help you facilitate change.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook em’ Horns!) in 2017 with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences. The following year I started my journey of becoming a therapist at Johns Hopkins University, graduating with an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The majority of my clinical experiences are in private practice and school-based settings. I have also gained extensive training in Sand Tray, Play Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy, which I believe are useful therapeutic modalities when counseling younger clients. I am also a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator!
I really enjoy working with children, tweens, and teens who may be experiencing school issues, depression, anxiety, and trauma. My main approach when working with clients is to create a space where they can truly be themselves, which is why I encourage my clients to incorporate their own creative interests in session.
I look forward to creating a collaborative and nurturing space where we can discover, be curious, and explore together!
When I am not with clients, I enjoy baking cookies, watching HGTV with my husband, and long walks.
