Welcome! The decision to pursue counseling for you or your child takes great courage and vulnerability. I am grateful for the opportunity to be on this journey with you as we navigate what brings you into counseling. My desire is to provide a safe, nurturing space for my clients where they can focus on themselves and their own identity while processing what is going on in their heart and mind.
I love working with children, adolescents, college students, and young adults experiencing developmental and adjustment challenges, depression, anxiety and mood disorders, including challenges with trauma, suicide & self harm, sexual assault/violence, interpersonal relations, self-esteem, personal growth, wellness and life balance, and somatic and spiritual awareness.
I utilize a holistic approach that integrates the whole person, using emotional, mental, spiritual, physiological, and neurological components with the intention to empower my clients to trust their whole self, their intuition and their ability to self-soothe. Depending on the age group, this is a collaborative process that involves a balance of deep listening, constructive feedback, and awareness building. My approaches include: play therapy, sand tray, expressive arts, talk therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, somatic processing, inner child, family and societal systems, and mindfulness, meditation, and contemplation.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Point Loma Nazarene University and further pursued my Master in Educational Counseling from University of La Verne with a certification in Clinical Mental Health from Antioch University. Before my time with Austin Family Counseling, I worked in the public school system and have over eleven years supporting children, youth, and young adults in school-based settings and in private practice. I enjoyed working as a wellness counselor where I provided mental health support to high school students individually and in groups, in addition to working as a school counselor providing academic and college/career counseling.
I look forward to hearing more about your unique story and am grateful for this time with you!
