Katy Manganella, M.A., LPC-Intern
Under the Supervision of Susan Gonzales, LPC-S, LMFT-S

Welcome. You are ready for a happier and more fulfilling life, and I am glad you are here. No one needs your love and care more than you do and counseling is the place to give yourself just that. It is an honor to be invited to sit with you and to create a safe space where we can focus on your path forward.

I connect well with highly empathetic folks and people who have been told they are “wise” most of their lives. I also love working with quirky-types, and those who feel like they do not fully fit in. A common trait I see when I start working with someone new is they have a gut feeling that things could be better, but feel stuck right now. My counseling areas of expertise include:

Relationship Counseling
  • Relationship strengthening including marriage, premarital, and co-parenting counseling
  • Challenges with communication and listening
  • Feeling distant or lonely in your relationship
  • Navigating life changes and coping with external stressors together
  • Building trust and commitment
  • Discernment counseling and end of relationship ambivalence
Individual Adult Counseling
  • Navigating big change
  • Relationship concerns
  • Grief and loss
  • Self-love and body image
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Career and job dissatisfaction
  • Existential questions, such as “Who am I?” and “What do I want from life?”
Teen Counseling
  • “Mature-for-your-age” teens
  • Self-love and body image
  • Preparing for adulthood and college
  • Identity formation
  • Gender and sexuality
  • Peer and familial relationship concerns

My background. In December 2011, I graduated summa cum laude with a M.A. in Counseling Psychology, with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am an alumni of the CACREP-accredited Psychology and Counseling Program at the University of Texas at Tyler. After graduating, I moved to New York City where I provided counseling services to homeless and previously homeless individuals and families. In 2015, I joined the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition in Austin, TX and was privileged to implement evidence-based programming for ending youth homelessness across multiple non-profit organizations in Austin. In August 2018, I was thrilled to join Austin Family Counseling where I practice relationship counseling and individual counseling for adults and teens. Throughout my experience, I have found that we all yearn to be loved, to belong, and to be significant.

What it is like to work with me. Counseling with me is non-judgemental. I truly hope you come exactly as you are. I promise to be authentic, empowering, and honest in counseling with you. I draw from advanced training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 1), Adlerian Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and I am a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. I am also a practicing yogi and am completing a 200-hour yoga teacher certification through the Yoga Alliance. I use an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring my approach to your unique needs and personality.

What I ask from you. I believe you are the expert on yourself and throughout counseling, we will call on your expertise and open opportunities for you to deepen the relationship with yourself. I ask that my clients commit to the work of counseling, knowing that the real change happens between sessions. I ask my clients to lean into vulnerability. I ask my clients to be open to trying new things, dig deep, and trust the process. And, perhaps most importantly, I ask my clients to be kind to themselves while they grow.
