Julie Burke, LPC

Hello there!  I am Julie and I am a therapist who helps people explore authenticity, vulnerability, and connection in a compassionate and empathic way.  I know looking for a therapist can be difficult for a variety of reasons so I appreciate you taking the time to do so. In the search for the right fit, it’s important to know a little about the person you are going to be working with, so here are some of my highlights.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas; I earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward’s University in 2016.  During graduate school, I worked with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as a behavior therapist, tutor, and career development instructor.  Growing up, I always knew I wanted to help other people; however, working with and caring for individuals who were unable to care for themselves solidified the fact that helping others would be a driving force for the rest of my life.  It is something I am passionate about and truly love doing. When working with clients, my ultimate goal is to provide guidance and support through life’s inevitable curveballs.

My areas of specialty include, but are not limited to:

Tweens, Teens, and Young Adults

    • Building & Maintaining Healthy Relationships
    • Life Transitions
    • Self-Harm
    • Communication
    • Anger
    • Anxiety & Depression

  • Trust Building/Re-Building
  • Divorce/Co-Parenting
  • Estranged Relationships
  • Building Communication
  • Differing Abilities/Special Needs

Relationships (of all shapes & sizes)

  • Connection
  • Life Transitions
  • Parenting
  • Infidelity
  • Vulnerability
  • High Conflict

Autism & Special Needs

  • Self-Awareness
  • Familial Support (particularly parents, caretakers, and siblings)
  • Sensory Sensitivities
  • Strengths-Focused Support

  • Self-Awareness & Acceptance
  • Gender Identity
  • Coming out
  • Living Authentically

Additionally, I am a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator.  Positive Discipline promotes healthy boundaries and autonomy between all family members and teaches valuable social and life skills by

  • Helping all family members feels a sense of connection
  • Identifying the belief behind problem behaviors
  • Teaching effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Teaching parents how to be kind and firm at the same time
  • Allowing children to discover the constructive use of personal power and autonomy
  • Focusing on solutions instead of punishments

The principles of Positive Discipline are a fundamental part of my therapeutic approach.

I understand and empathize with the fact that life happens and everyone experiences various challenges and uncertainties at one point in time or another. My approach to therapy is authentic, genuine, and free of judgment, so therapy with me will always feel comfortable (even when things get emotional or awkward) because you will always be able to undeniably be yourself. I am passionate about working with people of all ages and backgrounds and will provide a safe space to help navigate stressors that are impacting your life.

People often hesitate to ask for help, but I want you to know it is completely normal and beneficial to do so. Whatever your personal concerns may be, I am eager to work with you.
