Bethany Walker, LCSW
The first step is often the hardest in the mental health journey. I hope you will allow me to take these next few steps with you.
I have three core values in my approach to therapy: relationship, authenticity, and working within systems.
Relationship: The therapeutic relationship is key to my approach. By building mutual trust and understanding, our relationship can help process the things you bring to therapy. You are the expert on your own story, I am just meeting you where you are and holding space for you to process and grow.
Authenticity: Authenticity is important to me, both in my personal and professional relationships. I strive to bring my true self to session and ask that you do as well.
Systems Based: We don’t exist in a vacuum. Our lives are influenced by the people, organizations, and policies that surround us. My approach to therapy looks not only at the individual, but the family and bigger social systems.
I am particularly interested in how trauma manifests in relational spaces especially in families, couples, educational spaces, and peer relationships. I value holding space for adolescents, adults, and families who are struggling to cope after life changes.
I received my undergraduate degree in Social Work from Abilene Christian University and Masters of Social Work from Boise State University. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Community Counseling with a focus on Traumatology. I have 8 years of experience in social work with families, adolescents, and children in a variety of settings including schools, nonprofits, community centers, medical facilities, and private practice.
In addition to my therapy work, I am a consultant and writer. I work with several organizations ghostwriting, developing social emotional learning curriculum, and am publishing a children’s book on childhood trauma and resiliency, Lena & the Dragon. In my free time, I love spending quality time with my husband and daughter, curling up with a good book in my giant reading chair, or watching horror movies.
