Amanda Robinson, LPC, RPT

In the time that I have been a therapist, I have worked with children, adolescents and young adults, many of whom are experiencing anxiety or depression, relationship conflict or interpersonal violence. I also love working with parents to strengthen their bonds with their children and provide specific tools for managing behavior. I strongly believe in the importance of children feeling understood and supported within their families.

No matter the age of the client, I most often take a strengths-based, person-centered approach to therapy, because I believe clients are the experts of their own lives and need mostly support and guidance from therapists. With me, therapy is collaborative and moves at a pace that is comfortable for my clients, an approach that is often reassuring for the more resistant children and adolescents. When needed, I do pull in more directive techniques in order to gently confront faulty ways of thinking or teach new ways of coping. I also like to add in art, books, or engaging activities when appropriate, because I think we learn best when we’re truly interested and involved in the process. Therapy works by helping us find healthier ways to express our feelings, improve our relationships, and understand ourselves better.

In addition to therapy, I am also qualified to perform testing and assessment of a wide range of mental, emotional, and behavioral difficulties and personality traits. If you’re interested in testing for yourself or your child, feel free to reach out to me, and I’m happy to answer your questions.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hardin-Simmons University, and my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Texas State University. I am licensed as a professional counselor, and am also a registered play therapist. I am trained in both Positive Discipline and Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT).
